About the Voting Sphere

The Voting Sphere is the system and place that members use to change procedures and adopt new projects. In Community Earth, decisions are made equally among all members. Each member has a vote and each vote has an equal value. Members can choose to vote or not. The Voting Sphere allows members to implicate themselves on any issue that is of interest to them. Whether there are two people within the organization or one million the principal is the same.

For this to work, a proposal/problem (presented by a minimum of 2 members) is sent to a Compioptionist who then posts the proposal on the website (also accessible through each applicable office). A Forum is thus started. During this forum period, members can give their opinions and facts to be included in the possible options. The findings are compiled and presented by the Compioptionist in the form of a issue report: a summary of the actions and/or inaction to be voted upon by members.

In general a 2 week period is broken down as follows:

• 6 days for the forum to discuss all matters pertaining to the problem/suggestion ;
• 2 days for the Compioptionist to compile and have ready the issue report ;
• 6 days to vote on the possibilities.

Once a vote has been tallied the decision will be sent to all members and posted on our whats new page. In the case of adoption of a new project, Community Earth resources - such as the Service Co-operative and the Resourcary will become available for that project to use. The manager voted will be responsible to get the pieces necessary and start up a project profile. His/her time on that project starts immediately after the vote is tallied. In the case of a by-law or procedure the Administration will see to it that the procedures be updated and that the change does indeed take effect.

Each member is notified when a new forum is begun in either the global sphere or in their local sphere. Only Community Earth members can start forums and vote using the Voting Sphere. However the general public can watch and participate in the discussion..

If you would like to use this system for your group, organization or municipality Community Earth would be more than happy to help in any way possible. So far we are still in the beginning stages and although we have done much of the "hows" and calculations we have yet to find a programmer or programmers (preferably in MySQL that are capable and available to help us build it. This means that for the time being we will use free on-line forums and take votes in person or by telephone.
