PROJECT ENDED 2004 & 2007 |
|
Abstract : Stopping unwanted waste of paper by informing people living in the Montreal mega city region that they do not need to accept the junk mail. We hand out the appropriate stickers that will do this which are backed by a city by-law with fines when not respected. The local project No Junk Mail Please has out lived its purpose. Nobody in Montreal is taking up the project but more importantly we have just learnt of a Canada wide initiative that should help people deal with their junk mail. http://reddotcampaign.ca Please note that there is no current project manager at this time. If you are interested in administering this project contact the previous Project Manager at ivan@communityearth.org Every year I get at least 10 e-mails asking me where to get the stickers and as I no longer live there I can only refer you all... so: For personal use you need to be a resident of Montreal and you should be able to find the sticker at any ACCESS Montreal office or your local eco-quartier.
The goal of this project is to get the general public aware in the Montreal region that there exists a by-law and a sticker that they can use in order to help cut down on advertising and waste. Even though paper can be recycled, it can only be done so 5 to 6 times before the fibres are no good for anything. Also the ink used is not biodegradable and is toxic. If people still want their coupons they can always get them at the store in which they shop.
The project manager is trying to get a group of people, members and non-members to come together in little groups on varying days once a month to distribute the stickers. If interested contact the project manager for the exact time and details.
The project No Junk Mail Please is searching for volunteers to take on the following tasks.
