Community Earth Resourcary

Resourcary - a collection of sharable goods; also a place (ie. cyberspace), warehouse and/or the institution in charge of such a collection where goods held in common can be borrowed.

Items that have been donated to Community Earth Organization are offered on the Resourcary List. For first timers who are not familiar with the Resourcary and how to use it, please read below.

About the Resourcary?

The goal of the Resourcary is five fold:
      1. to reduce the damage inflicted on the environment by reusing as much as possible;
      2. to get people to share on a daily basis, resulting in more social interaction and a reduction of workloads and stresses associated with the "keep up with the Jones'" mentality;
      3. to pool our resources together inorder to reduce our reliance on the "consumption based" economic system;
      4. to promote the manufacture of goods of quality that last for generations;
      5. and to promote a new “moneyless” economy.

Once items have been donated to Community Earth Organization they are managed and repaired in the Resourcary and offered on the Resourcary List. In fact all Community Earth's materials, land and assets other than monies are held in common through the Resourcary. Each Resourcary locale strives to be a well organized storage space and is accessable by contacting the local Resourcary Managers.

Since Community Earth is not reliant on any government funding, the fees and or volunteer time help manage and organize the Resourcary, pay for the website and database space, repair broken goods, etc... The fees are kept to a minimum because the Resourcary does not cover the costs of space to store the goods. Instead Community Earth relies on donated spaces/rooms in different parts of the city/country that are not being used. Community Earth is always in search of such spaces to expand the Resourcary and any space offered (even just for periods of 1 year) are very much appreciated and will benefit all.

Community Earth accepts donations of all useful items for the Resourcary with the exception of clothing and furniture. If there are items that you donate they officially become the property of Community Earth and are added to the Resourcary. As such we suggest that you do not donate goods that you are personally attached to. Any donations of money are also more than welcome.

How to use the Community Earth Resourcary

1. The Resourcary works on a first come/contact - first serve/reserve basis.
2. To search for items you can browse the list or do a search using key words with the "find" tool in the "Edit" menu of the webpage. You can also do this by contacting a resourcy manager by telephone.
3. There are two ways in which items can be reserved. If an item is currently out a member can ask to be notified once the item is returned. Upon notification the member has 7 days to pick up the item. Failure to pick up an item within the 7 day period voids the reservation. The second method is the specific date reservation. By reserving on a specific date in the future the member locks into a time period. The item must be picked up on the day of the reservation unless the Resourcary is notified of a delay. If such a delay does occur the return date cannot be extended if any type of reservation has been made for that item by another person.
4. With the Managers' permission, the regular borrowing time of an item can be extended if the time extention does not interfere with a previous reservation. Please note that each item has a different borrowing period due to its use.
5. An item lent out can be re-borrowed up to two times via phone, internet etc... providing there are no reservations for it. After that, the item needs to be returned and accounted for before it is lent out again.
5. Please bring items back in a clean condition and if something is broken please inform the Resourcary Manager right away.

About the Resourcary List

Most items currently in the Resourcary List are located at Community Earth's head office in Shefford, Quebec. Items followed by an asterix and number in parenthesis such as (*2) are items located in other locations such as Longueuil & Montreal. If pick up is not possible, we may be able to deliver the goods.

Any individual can consecrate some space (at home, in an office etc...) to open a local resourcary. Such persons will however be responsible for organizing the items and updating the Resourcary List. Photos and more detailed information on the items of the list will be available on this site when the database is built.

There are many reasons why items may be removed from the list:
- if an item comes back broken and non-repairable;
- if an item comes back broken but reparable or missing major parts;
- if an item goes missing or is stolen;
- if an item is in indefinte use by a project of Community Earth or the organization itself. In any of these cases an independant archive is kept. When items have been repaired and items in indefinite use are no longer being used they will be transfered back to the main list.

The Resourcary is relatively new and the list is not vast. With you we hope to expand the list, open new locations and have the Resourcary used by a wider population.

To borrow or donate items please contact Ivan Tattoli at 1-450-539-0118 or by e-mail at ivan@communityearth.org

Before you buy another thing, check out the Resourcary list!
