Becoming A Social Entrepreneur

Have you ever wanted to champion a cause or had a great idea but not the time, money or know how to follow it through? Have you ever been frustrated with the way things work and want to make a difference, be a difference in your community, in your region and on the planet? You may even already have some project in development but are hesitant to leap? If this sounds like you then perhaps becoming a Social Entrepreneur may well be the career you have always been looking for, one which never existed ... until now?

The Social Entrepreneur Foundation has created a unique opportunity. There is no age limit or education requirement to apply - these we believe are secondary to vision and ambition when taking on such projects. Furthermore the foundation has no national ties - we accept interested persons from any region of the planet. Being a social entrepreneur however is not an easy road traveled but it should prove rewarding in so many ways. Working at a career in line with your values and interests is incredibly empowering.

As a potential candidate you must first...

  • Ask yourself if becoming a social entrepreneur is really what you believe in. This includes the type of work, but most importantly the project(s) that you are or will be spearheading. Not all projects need be philanthropic in nature, nor grandiose in scope. However the project(s) must be action oriented(concrete) and meet one or many of the following mandates: education, equality, ecological and economic sustainability or conflict management.
  • Second, ask yourself if you have what it takes. Bluntly put, it takes vision, care and some serious commitment. You don't have to be a super being, no one is perfect, but if you have any doubt that you will stick to it then chances are you won't.
  • Third, find out if this foundation and the peer to peer style sponsoring would work for you. In brief, this consists of a trade off - a vow of modesty (no fat bonuses!) and relinquishing a bit of control as sponsors input may sway the group dynamic, in EXCHANGE for - team spirit, constructive criticism, financial stability (in the form of a wage) and a better chance of project success.
  • Lastly, read, understand and agree with the sponsor & social entrepreneur agreement details.

The Social Entrepreneur Foundation (SEF) will assist eligible persons to set themselves up to operate properly via counseling, communication logistics, providing a protocol to follow and facilitating sponsor involvement through our web site and in rare cases aid in attaining project grants.

As a Social Entrepreneur with SEF you will be working as your own boss and it is thus your responsibility to garner the sponsors for your support and your responsibility to follow SEF protocols. Although some persons may sponsor you through the foundations web site directly we believe the majority of sponsors want to meet first in person and as such you must be ready to solicit yourself and your idea. That said, the Social Entrepreneur Foundation will try to guide you through this process.

It is possible for a person without an already existing project in the works to become a SEF social entrepreneur by finding a project idea in need of a leader. SEF has a dozen such project ideas on the shelf waiting for the right person(s).

If you KNOW that you are ready to be a social entrepreneur then we hope to hear from you soon. Since we are a mobile operation it is best to contact us first via e-mail or telephone. After you contact us we will set a time for an informal meeting where you can address your questions and pitch yourself and your project(s). Within two weeks of that meeting you will be notified of our decision. It is our mandate to increase the number of social entrepreneurs world wide and so long as you prove that the project is important, fits into our mandate and you are the one to make it happen, then SEF will be pleased to work with you. The world is waiting.
